hey there

My betta had that issue when I accidentally overfed him. I went about two days without feeding him. When I came home the third day he was back to normal. I believe it was swim bladder and constipation. He was about three years old when he had this problem. He lived to be over 5 years old. Hope this helps.

Sounds like either SBD or Bloat. Try using epsom salt. I'm not sure the dosage, look in the sticky. Someone else may be around to help as well.

Also if you could answer the questions in the other sticky we may be able to help more.

Size: 1 gallon
water changes: at least 1 per week
water temp.: room temperature
no filter
no live plants
I use prime and ph adjuster
he still has a normal appetite
no tank mates (only another 1 gallon tank with another betta next to him, but they don't flare at each other.)
photo period???
I got him april 4th 2011 and yesterday he was fine as far as I saw.

Is epsom salt the same as aquarium salt?

What is the water temp, photo period is how long the lights are on...

Epsom salt is not the same thing as aquarium salt....

Since he is symptomatic to the bloat...I would start him on Epsom salt 2tsp/gal, tannins along with 100% daily water changes for the next 10-14 days, hold food for 3 days...then small frequent meals of a quality food....

Pre-mix some treatment water in a 1gal jug of dechlorinated water-Add Epsom salt 2tsp/gal and tannins-either IAL or Oak leaf....use this pre-mixed treatment water for 100% daily water changes in QT for the next 10-14 days.....also cover the top of the small QT with plastic veggie wrap to retain the heat and humidity for the labyrinth organ...

If he came in a small cup...this works great for the QT container that can be floated in the heated tank to maintain water temp in the 76-77F range....

Tannins-IAL you can usually get one line....I like to use oak leaves from my oak trees...10-12 crushed/gal... naturally dried and fallen from the tree-Oak leaf...
