How to stop the obsession?

I'm 14 and started with bettas about 4 years ago with ONE male who lived to be about three years old. Last year, I failed with a 4 girl sorority and have one girl from it left who is happy and healthy. Blah blah basically now I have 7 bettas.

IT'S SO ADDICTING!

I love to buy a new bowl and set up the rocks and plants and caves.. It's so much fun. And that joy of carrying them around when you first pick a new one out.

It seems like everytime I find reasonable space for another one, I insist on getting another.

My parents don't like it, especially with the water. We have city water, so we go to Publix and fill up 10 gallon bottles every month of like better and healthier water for drinking without the chlorination, and it works perfectly for fish LOL.

I have space for another betta but know my parents would kill me if I get another.. The only problem is I go to Petsmart almost every 2 weeks for dog food and cat food with my mom, and while she's getting that I always look at the bettas. No matter what, I always find one I end up begging for and my mom falling in love with too, and then having to explain it with my dad.. o.o

So yeah. Is there a cure for the betta bug because I just can't stop!

the cure isnt realy a cure. Just an understanding that you have other things to do, and you should only have as many fish as you can honestly care for...w/o them takeing time away from your other joys.

I'm facing the same issue. Really, the solution is like... don't look. Don't even go over to the betta section.

If you were dieting, would you go stare at all the food in a buffet? chances are no, as you'd wind up eating. I think it's the same with fish. lol

I find the only cure is to BUY ANOTHER! I started with a divided tank for only 1 male and 1 female. Now I have 2 females, 1 male and another on the way. I'm already creating space for two more! My husband is now wondering if both of our nighstands can tolerate 10 gal tanks - that's 4 more!! Woo! Hoo! Doesn't matter if you're 14 or 44 - nothing is better than a Betta!

You might try you satiate your betta perusing fix on Aquabid instead of the petstore? I am continuously amazed at the quality of fish people in Thailand put on Aquabid and then comparing them to what is available in the States. Makes no sense. Well I guess it makes sense in that is where the Betta hobby originated, however, people have had plenty of time to import high quality breeders into the states.

aquabid may make it worse. i have one and found the one thats coming in thru AB. its nearly my dream betta so im rather satified with having 2 only. if i ever get a 5gal i'd probably succumbe to a 3rd betta. im surprised that i havent jumped on +3 bettas but thats probably an issue on locations to put a tank that keeps me from doing it.

tell yourself you don't have room for another betta. or, you only have enough money for a small bowl. x: that's how i stop myself.


of course. i'm in the process of buying a pair of females from Chard. so.... >w<

i wont lie but if i ever do find any nice green/turquiose marbles i will buy them regardless of a prepared tank and get the tank soon afterwards. id say thats my only weakness for bettas.

That goes for me too, except I would get blue/ turquoise marbles :3
