Pretty sure he's dead now. His cup was filthy when I got him and slowly intodruced him to clean. Every thing was good till like 2 min ago. I saw him on his side then. He was jumping like crazy then floating on his side so I touched him. Moved again but then would stop so I'd try to make him move again with more gentle stimulation. But no

I wish I coul have. I would if I wasn't on my iPhone. Hes dead now, unfortunately. I'm pretty bummed. I was going to give male bettas a chance again. But, eh. I'll stick to my girls. And the funny thing is he was in the QT waiting for the bubbles in his big tank to settle. Upsets me. Im taking him back and getting crickets For my toad :/. At least I can get 80 with the 8.00 I spent on him.

I'm so sorry you lost your guy. I learned the hard way that when they start jumping around like that after a long illness or bloat, it means the kidneys are in the final stages of shutting down. I had a girl with dropsy I rescued from Wal-Mart who did that. One minute she seemed like she couldn't move, then she flipped out in her cup and passed.

Yeah I was pretty upset. His poop in his cup was REALLY gross and really kind of made me sick. Maybe he had something. He was really pretty though. It's always embarrassing taking one back :(.

Sigh.

He wasn't bloated or anything, was active and even flared a couple times (I wanted to see his flare)

It should be embarrassing for the pet store because if he died within hours of you getting him, the odds are overwhelming that it's because of the care the pet store gave him, not you.

Sorry for your loss, when the fish takes a sudden turn and is trying to get out of the water especially during the acclimation period-then sudden death....its usually pH, nitrate, temp related or it was forgotten dechlorinated or not enough used in the new water....slow acclimation to both temp and water chemistry to the Betta tolerance...sometimes it can take a couple of hours and sometimes only 5 minutes......
