That's kinda scary. No wonder there's always a ton of bettas with swimbladder issues at Petsmart.

Maybe he'd be interested in a bloodworm or something soaked in garlic?

I think I'll try that. I have something called Vita-Chem that I use for my HM with chronic constipation (he never seems bothered by it but he only goes like once a week or sometimes even longer!).

It's worth a shot. Hopefully he'll eat it and like it.

He ate! I dipped some frozen bloodworms in the Vita-Chem and he didn't seem interested so I left them. When I went back to check on him, they were gone so I gave him two more and he ate one for me. I also put a little of Vita-Chem in his water. Instructions say 1 drop per gallon so I mixed up a new gallon of epsom salt and added a drop of Vita-Chem.

Very good! Glad he is eating. Maybe he'll have enough to push something out and fix his swimbladder. I've only heard of problems because something was pushing on the swimbladder, so maybe it'll clear up as soon as he poops.

He's really pretty by the way.

Update: gave him 3 more small bloodworms and he belly-crawled over to eat them so he must not have been eating at the pet store. Water is colder than I'd like, only 76-77* but I don't want to float him in my sorority because I'm afraid all those girls swarming around him will upset him. Also afraid they'll just knock the Gladware over because they are rather boisterous. I'll cover him with a towel and hope for the best. Update in the morning.

Good luck. I hope all goes well. And at least the water isn't room temp for Petsmart. It's always cold at the one here.

Thanks. I found an old Zoo Med Betta heater so I stuck that in there to raise the temp. I'll take it out before I go to bed.

Update: Feeding him 1-2 small worms every few hours. He's sitting up more, not flopped on his side and will belly-skitter away from my hand. I'm beginning to think he was starving to death there because he wouldn't/couldn't eat pellets.
