hey guys .. i'm really new to knitting .. so i was wondering .. when the directions say to cast on 15 stitches .. and the first loop u make to cast on .. is that counted as 1 stitch ? @_@ then i do 14 more ? or .. the first loop doesn't count and i do 15?

I do a long tail cast on and it actually makes the first 2 stitches with the first cast on. So yes, the first cast on stitch should be counted as 1.

+1 to Knitting Help! I learned an awful lot from that website, and still do.

I also do long tail cast-on. I used to do it another way, but I really like the long-tail method.

In other news, I *finally* started the owlie sleep sack. Glad my fingers haven't forgotten how to knit, it's been so long, lol!

I taught myself to knit using knittinghelp.com, that site is awesome. If you are doing a cable cast-on or a knit cast on, then the first loop counts as a stitch.

Did anyone ever try to learn how to knit using a really old knitting book?

I tried when I was 12 and was all like "These diagrams don't make sense." Could never figure out for the life of me how they got from step A to step B sometimes.

Thank goodness for the internet now. I'd be lost without knittinghelp :D

=D thanks for all the helps guys !! .. i actually learned from a book .. i don't think it's an old book .. but it's called "stitch n edit" .. and also a lot of youtube videos
