I keep the working yarn wrapped around my finger once, pretty tightly. I knit english style.

The only advice I have is to knit knit knit. My first attempts sucked big time.

My loops are either TOO tight or TOO loose, I'm ready to give up now. It seems just like a waste of time, money and frustration. I can knit half a row to one row but I ALWAYS mess up on the second one for sure, I just can't knit anything.

I don't wrap the yarn around my fingers as it doesn't feel right to me. If you feel more comfortable not wrapping at all, try that.
