I noticed awhile back people ignoring the suggested hook/needles for the yarn they buy. That's fine, as long as you get your gauge right. There is a reason there is a suggested needle/hook. You don't want to end up with something too big or small (like if you made a hat).

My favorite yarns are Caron Simply Soft and Bernat Premium yarns. I can't STAND Red Heart. Sure, it MAY soften with washing, but working with it is a pain because it's so scratchy. It may be cheap, but I wouldn't waste $2.50 on it.

I also like Loops & Threads Impeccable yarn. It's SO SOFT and it has very few fibers sticking out of it. I also like cotton yarn, but it's more pricey and it gets heavy and has no give to it.

I've only used loops and thread country loom but I gotta check out Impeccable yarn now:)
