first breeding attempt

this will be my first attempt at breeding eventhough i have been doing my homework. the tank is a ten gallon clean bottom with 5 gallons in it and is half full. there is parrots feather and mini duckweed in there for plants. it is filtered with a sponge filter and there is very little water displacement. the pair is a black and red vt male that has been conditioned for the last two weeks as well as the female. they have been in seperate tanks and are now in the same tank but one in a chimney. the male has no bubblenest. i have no idea how the two will react. they have never been spawned before.

i have two potential females and he can see them both. he seems interested but they don't yet. they will have some more time before I put either of them in with him completely.

The other thing is you didnt mention any hiding spots for the female. If things start to go badly she might need them.
While I have no experience myself I have read that the girls may need a few days before they show their stripes.
Best of luck

This is their first time, right?.... I suggest let the female stay in the chimney for 2 days (if they're responding to the male). Then release her. If you're not using extra lighting, releasing the female at night or late afternoon would reduce injuries because they can sense each other but become inactive after dark.

Good luck.

i will try that tomorrow. one has her bars, the other lost hers the second she was put in the chimney. she is ultra submissive though. the one with out the bars will be pulled in a few hours and the other is still acting defiant but has her bars maybe whe will get with the program. but she is young and this is their first attempts for each.

she's out of the chimney now bur when he comes near her, she looses her bars. after a few minutes she gains them again.

i still don't see any eggs in the nest. i think i'll give her some more time. she's okay, not really nipped up but she doesn't really seem interested in him.
