OK - I was wrong about the breed of Tetra. I went into PetSmart again today and they are called Long Fin Red Minor Tetras. http://www.google.com/search?q=long-...w=1024&bih=677

The fish person there said "they have no fight in them." which certainly seems to be the case so far. They are staying in a school chasing each other here and there while the betta hangs at the top of the tank and occasionally charges them, but that seems to be less and less. It's only been about 24 hours though - time will tell.

Do they have those long fins?? I wonder if your Betta may see them as a threat? They look just like the Serpae don't they? Gorgeous!

those are long-finned serpae. x: not the kind i saw, the kind i saw in the tank with the finless betta were short-finned serpae.

Pic of the tetra - Emerald is in the top left, but you can't really see him. The fishies are in France

Well, this experiment is coming to a close, the betta's fin is getting chomped on (of course they would do it while I'm running an errand) - and I don't want him to look like a raga-muffin.

D'aw :( Sorry to hear about that! Could you take them back and get another type? I know it's a bit of a pain since they were on sale, but another tetra like the Black Neons or Rasboras would be nice in there :) Not flashy and not nippy!

PetSmart gives 14 days with receipt to take them back, so back they went. I think I'm going to wait. I'm cycling the tank and they said best to let the betta go thru the cycle since he's stronger. The other types of fish are weaker and it could kill them. So in about 3 weeks I'll try again.
