Ugh, I am just so worried about her. :(

She does appear to be swimming around a bit better though. Fingers crossed...

It's so hard with fish when something isn't right because you feel so helpless. All you can do is watch. You can't even pet them to let them know you're thinking about them. Fingers and toes crossed and everything. Get better soon Luna!

It was suggested on another forum that she may simply be weak from being kept in a small space. The poster told me that they had a betta who exhibited similar symptoms and after a week or so of "strengthening" he was much better. Hopefully this is the case with Luna.

Another poster suggest she may just have a deformed spine.

I hope that's the case. She's so adorable, she doesn't deserve to have SBD issues, even slight ones.

I agree! She'll have a home for life, either way. I considered taking her back to the store and exchanging her but realised there is no way I could do that. I've really clicked with this little fish!

I do hope she gets back to 100%... I want babies from her pretty bad. :P

She'd be a cute mother, I can picture such adorable fry.

An update

Well, Luna is still going strong. She still has some issues but it doesn't seem to do her any harm. She was a pain in the ass to net (where as the first few days it was easy), she eats readily, is pooping well, swims around like a maniac on ocassion and is looking pretty eggy. She even flared at herself in the mirror!

I will try and get pictures/video soon so you can see her improvement.

I'm glad to hear she's doing well. I was thinking about her the other day. Sounds like she has a lot of energy to avoid the net, haha. Maybe the remaining issues will disappear with time. I hope.

I hope so... I would really like to breed her but I am worried about passing on any genetic defects, if that is what is causing the issue. I suppose I could give it a try and just cull any undesirable fry. It's something I will have to think about, anyway.

That might be the only way to find out if it's a genetic defect or not, is to breed her. She's so beautiful, I bet her fry would be gorgeous, they'd have awesome coloring. If it is a genetic defect, maybe it would be a passive one and the male's genes would be dominant?
