Cool Quick question...

So I conditioned my betta's separately with high protein diets. I allowed the male to get accustomed to the breeder tank, then put the female in, in her jar. He flared and danced around her, she got nice and round and striped...

And as soon as I released her he lost all interest. He has avoided her at all costs. There's been absolutely no aggression between the two of them...at all...I dropped a couple brine shrimp into the dead center between the two of them, they both went for them, she got them first, he didn't even flare up, nip, anything. I dropped one closer to him, he got it, she nipped him a little...he swam away.

My question; is it possible for a male betta to just not be breedable? Or is she maybe the wrong female? I'd love babies from him, he's beautiful. But I'd love babies from her, and I'm highly considering buying her a new male tomorrow. Thoughts?

breed Jazzy! he's too pretty to not breed!

uumm.... what's the temp in the tank? some people dump cooler water into the tank, to trick the betta's instincts into thinking it rained, which is when they breed in the wild.

i hope a good breeder helps out more! :O

It's at a consistent 80*. I've tried so many tricks, and I was talking to Punki and she thinks he may not be aggressive enough. He won't even flare at mirrors at this point :( I may have to get a different male. :/

oh, noes! D: i hope that's not the case!

though, i've heard of friendly bettas like yours, suddenly turning on the romantic music, busting out the red roses and wine, and making babies, when the owners are asleep. xD

You know what, i just remembered at the 12h mark i had some rainwater outside freshly collected that i dumped in, it didnt seem to move things forward much but it didnt hurt either. I just remembered when Luim said that, something about ph and temp or something. *hopes its raining there* :))

Have you tried turning the lights off, maybe hes nervous =x
I think it was OFL who said about the rainwater, that it sometimes makes slow spawners speed things up. How old is Jazz? Honestly, hes gorgeous and itll mean more to you to have his little ones, there are different methods, i think ofl does a shock method that she said sometimes causes spawns within the hour, id just keep trying with Jazz, because with a new male youd have to recondition and such anyways, better to keep trying with him id say :)

That's what I'm hoping. I'm leaving them together til tomorrow afternoon. If I don't see at least a sign of them breeding Imma separate them tomorrow afternoon.

In the meantime I talked my bf into letting me get another male..... :D
