Film on top of tank

Hi guys! I was just wondering if the film that can some times build up on the surface of the aquarium is detrimental to the Betta? I read some where that it is usual protein build up. I figure its more common in Betta set ups since the water movement is slow or none at all. I don't mind the film really but I usually skim it off with the net since I'm not sure if it makes it harder for Comet to breathe. Any help clearing this up would be appreciated!

What water conditioner are you using? API Stress Coat has been known to leave a film.

I actually use a combo of Tetra Tablets, API stress coat, and Wild Almond leaf extract
