max temp before its dangerous?

I was gone from my home the past 3 days during a heat wave. There was no air conditioning on during this time. I anticipated this and made sure the heater was unplugged in case it were to make matters worse (there is a thermostat but not always reliable).

I came home this AM and the apartment was very warm. The water in the aquarium is at least 85. Its possible the water was warmer while I was gone, temps have been over 100 outside.

The fish look OK - but was this very unhealthy for them? Is there anything I can do for them now?

Unless the apartment itself got to 100 or over, the water probably didn't reach any higher than 88 would be my guess. It would be warm but bettas can usually withstand temps of up to 90 for short periods of time, like for heat/salt ich treatments. And even then, if the temperature increase is carried out gradually, your fish would survive the change without being shocked. If your fish are acting normally, I wouldn't worry too much, just keep an eye out for abnormal behavior.
