TK - floating at the top of his tank?

I just got my new Betta, TK this afternoon. (red ct male) Since I put him in his new tank, he's been floating to the top. Upright, and his swimmy fins are going really fast. Uh, what should I do? It looks like he struggles to the bottom, and his raee drags him upwards.

Is he having a hard time swimming to the bottom/middle and seems like he's stuck at the top? If so, he may have Swim Bladder Disease. What are you feeding him? What was he fed at the store?

Better yet... can you fill out this? Answer as much as you can :)

Can you describe how you moved him into the tank? Are you putting anything into the water before you put him in? Just trying to narrow this down. Was he normal at the pet store?

I set the tank, put the reccomended amount of conditioner in it, set his cup in, let him acclimate for 10 minutes, then placed him the tank. He seemed normal at the store. Although, he was not in a tank at the store.

I really like him, and I'm quite worried. What is the treatment for the bladder thing? I've not seen him potty or anything.

Usually I add small amounts of tank water to the cup to let the betta get used to the type of water, since it will be different than the water in the cup.

Sounds like your guy might have Swim Bladder Disease. Did the store feed him freeze dried bloodworms? They should only be fed as a treat, once a week. This is what gives them Swim Bladder Disease most times. My new boy had it.

What I did was mix 1 gallon of treated water (conditioner) with 1 tsp of epsom salts in a container. I put my guy in a 1gal tank with about 2 inches of this water. I gave him something to prop himself on since he was very tired from having to swim (like some stones). I kept the bottom of the tank bare so I can see if he poops. I didn't feed him for 24h, and then fed him some frozen Brine Shrimp with a syringe. After about 3 days, he pooped and now he's swimming fine.

Epsom salts can be bought at any Pharmacy by the way. Frozen foods are usually about $5 for a big block of it.

Is there anyway you can take a photo of him? Video?

I know how you feel hun. I lost my first two boys a week after taking them home. My Ben got sick a week after I took him home and I took home Hughie with SBD. I have yet to have a healthy fish, and I get so attached :(

I would try to get a video but I'm posting from my phone. :( he's having a real hard time moving around. I just came in and he's at the bottom of the tank. Now he's at the top again. His fins are moving very fast, and when He tries to wriggle his body forward it backtracks. :(
