I need some help!

Today I went to my local petstore. I live in a small town so the store is equally small. So. I was browsing the betta and the tanks. So expensive here!
I went to the back where they have glass tanks and I saw a 5 gallon (maybe 6) glass tank. Run of the mill basic tank without a lid. The sale price was 6$! So I bought the glass tank, a thermometer, and a Terra cotta pot.

When i got home my mom said "You can't put koichi in there! It's been used"

I admit it is a little dusty but is it really inhabitable?

Give it a good clean in hot water and vinegar.

Thank you!! Koichi is in a 1.5 gal tank and I wanted to move him to a bigger home. I will start cleaning! I thinkg my mom was worried about infections and diseases.

Welcome to the forum...and nice find.....

Tell your mom that most pathogens that infect fish die within 24-48h once dehydrated.......the tank should be safe...a good rinse with tepid running water....either vinegar or diluted bleach....a little extra dechlorinator with the final fill....enjoy....
