Exclamation He Fell HELP please

Hi all, i just got done with a salt bath for my beta, Ula, he looked like his fins were a little big browner and his belly was swelled a little bit. I put him in his newly cleaned tank and when to go put him on my shelf. Then my cat ran, tripped me and almost got outside (its night and he kills cats). The little tank went crashing down to the floor. I called for my dad and searched for Ula among my dirty floor. We couldn't find him! Then my 3-year-old sister said "look! Your fishy!" She fond him!

I am so worried! He fell about 3 feet to the ground and stayed there flipping for a little less then a minuet. What should I do?

Oh and I fond this and thought I should fill it out for you guys...

He is also breathing more rapidly.

I am also thinking about changing his tank to a one gallon bowl when it comes to him next tank clean. Any way I can without it being to stressful and what can I do to make his living conditions better?

For now, I think it would be best to keep his tank very dark, maybe cover it with a pillow case and keep the lights off as much as you can. You could hold off on his food for a day or two as well.

I know it's going to be discouraged, but for the sake of him calming down, I'd say hold off on changing his water or tank for a day or two so he's got some time to settle back in and calm down. Afterwards keep the water cleaner by doing changes more frequently.

Thank you so much for saying something. Can I change him into a bigger bowl, next week or so?

Sometime next week would be better, yes. If you're going for a 1 gallon bowl, you'll have to do frequent water changes, just as a heads up. You also might want to invest in a heater/thermometer since bettas do best in water that's 78*F - 82*F.

I would think in a 1 gallon bowl, you'll want to do 50% changes about everyday to keep water quality up and ammonia down.

Good luck with your betta.

I know it's expensive but I would recommend getting at least a 2.5, that way you won't need to change the water so often and stress him. Other than that, I agree to keep him in a dark, warm place.

If you have or can get ahold of some stress coat that might help him alil too. and with the 1/2 gal water changes everyday minimum, 1 gal alil less, I have a 1 gal, a 1.5 gal and more that are bigger but for my 1.5 gal i do a 50 and 100% every week and he seems to be fine what i plan to do is play with test strips to figure out when water perimeters change to figure out when i should change but that is me. I think he is just shaken up so follow above advice lol
