ATTN: Brita Filter Owners [Assistance needed]

Greetings everybody,

It has recently come to my attention that there are some members on this forum who use Brita filters and/or pitchers to fill or top up their tanks.

I have recently discovered that Brita filters may (or may not) be bad for your aquariums. Their filters are a two stage system, the first is the activated carbon designed to remove that yucky taste of chlorine out of your tap. The second stage is an ion exchange that removes calcium carbonate from your water. Out of curiosity, I decided to test my own Brita filter vs. untreated tap water and found the following results:

1. pH decreases sharply (about 1ph decrease)
2. Alkalinity is DESTROYED due to ion exchange inside the filter.
3. Water is a little softer

I NEED YOUR HELP TO CONFIRM/DISPROVE THIS.

If you are a Brita owner, please help me out by providing the following test information form:

Brita Product(s) that you own: Pitcher OR their tap attachment

How old is your filter, approximately?: (If you use their calendar sticker)

UNTREATED TAP WATER:
pH:
Alkalinity (KH (ppm) or dKH):
Hardness (GH (ppm) or dGH):

UNTREATED BRITA WATER:
pH:
Alkalinity (KH (ppm) or dKH):
Hardness (GH (ppm) or dGH):

Thank you so much for your cooperation! Please make sure you are using UNTREATED water, so no Seachem Prime or anything.
