Question snail question

okay so i put the snail that was in with syre when he got sick/died in his own tank for the past few days. hes still active and i put a leaf of lettuce in the tank to try to feed him. is it possible that he's carrying what killed syre? and if so is there a process so i can put him in kai's tank so he doesnt starve?

He wont starve. Your tank needs lots of algae to keep the snail fed, which is probably doesnt have. I would go and get algae wafers for your snail. For now, keep him in his own container. They can harbor some disease, I believe, but remain unaffected.

Bob the container int he big tank to keep the snail warm, do frequent water changes.

Did your fish die? Im sorry, just a little confused...

If so, clean out the tank with hot water and no soap. No soap, ever! Clean off the gravel, the decorations, everything. Use warm water on the filter and heater, not hot.

Let it dry out for a while.

Oh, and try blanching zucchini or cucumbers. The snail may like that more.

yea syre showed early signs of dropsy and died within a day ;c
he didnt show any signs prior so i had no idea he was sick..

the snail is in a different tank than the one he shared with syre. mom was not keen on me keeping the 5 gal up for a snail. its currently in a 1.5 gal with some of the old gravel and a lettuce leaf.

Okay. Im sorry he died, thats too bad..

I would def. clean out the tank. Dropsy isnt a disease itself, but a symptom of another or a few others. You can use a very diluted bleach and water mix to clean it, or better yet a white vinegar mix with water to clean it.

I dont know the ratio, so if you wanna know that you may have to make a new thread (sorry! D: )

But for now, the snail should be ok. Like said, whenever you can, get the fella some algae wafers. Til then blanched veggies are ok.

QT the snail for a few weeks, just in case, before adding him to a tank with another fish.

I believe it's 1 part Vinegar to 9 parts water OR 1 part bleach to 16 parts water. You could use a measuring cup for each part. That's what I do. Then I leave the tank out in the sun all day.

^ I think that's the measurements, yeah. I cant remember >_< When I have a diseased tank, I put an ungodly amount of salt in and let it sit. Sometimes I hit it with meds, if I knew what it was...

I dont have bleach or vinegar in my dorm, gotta get crafty D:

the original tank was cleaned with a vinegar solution the day after the fish died.

They usually have a few types. Algae wafers are fairly common to stock :)
