Heater Question...

My betta's ten-gallon tank has a submersible heater, and I've noticed that a lot of you have a heater like it or similar to it. I have the heater near the bottom of the tank, turned sideways, because I read that it was best that way. I'm concerned about my betta getting burned by the heater if he goes to explore around it. He just swam behind it and under it and seems fine, so I don't know if - it being submersible - they decided to put some type of protective device around it so it doesn't harm or burn the betta. It doesn't really seem to be an issue, but I was wondering if you all think it is safe as it is? I'm considering buying something to hide it behind... But Turbo loves to explore things and hide behind them, so he'd probably find it, anyway... Any ideas?

Almost ALL my heaters are positioned the same as yours and haven't had a burn victim yet! :)

My heater is similar (although positioned vertically) and when i first put it in the tank i was concerned about this as well. I've had no problems with burns and my little guy likes to swim all around it.

=] That's good to know. I feel a lot better about the heater now, and Turbo doesn't seem to have a problem with it, either.
