I changed his water and added 1/2 tsp of salt. When I was doing that I saw that he is paler! His black on his body is brownish and tail a little brown too! D:

Did you just add the salt while he was in the tank or did you premix? I should have mentioned it before.

If you didn't I'd change the water again in a little bit and wait to put salt in with him until tomorrow. I've hear that directly adding the salt can actually burn the fish, but premixing it lets it dilute and spread to the rest of the water quicker.

He might be trying to go to sleep. Just keep his room/tank dark for him and check back a few times with a cellphone light or flashlight. I'm doing that with my boys due to their reaction to their water change tonight, but I think I just put them in half asleep.

I am no Betta expert myself, and continue to learn everyday from my fish and from the forums. My understanding is that if he turns pale, that could be a sign that he is stressed or scared. Mine is iridescent blue/green, and when he is stressed or scared, he turns pale and becomes a different colored fish all together with a dark stripe running along his body.

Generally, turning color is a way for them to disguise themselves and blend into the surrounding if threatened or scared.

I may have overlooked if you had mentioned it, but constant temperature is very important, and so a thermometer is what you need to monitor the water temp since you will be doing water changes on a daily basis, otherwise he will be shocked by the varying temp.

Hope he will be upgraded to a 2 gal soon and feels better!

Question: Did you use aq salt or sea salt?
Because sea salt is a big no no.. It causes more damage than good..

I did use sea salt with no iodide and no other added stuff. He looks better! His color is back and he is trying to eat me!

Is this a good sing?

As long as he's trying to eat and isn't lethargic, all is good.. But sea salt can be harmful.. It isn't meant for fresh water fish.. What you need is aquarium salt and if you can't find that, rock salt (kosher salt) i.e. sodium chloride... Again, without iodine and anti-caking agents..
