Went down to my favorite petstore today to find a Betta for my 5 gallon and the girl who takes care of the fish told me that someone- she doesn't actually know who, had dumped a male betta in with their back room community tank. The community tank (250 gallon) contained a very large number of fish (a female betta sorority included) and hiding places, so it was only after they noticed the few week old betta fry that they realized what happened.
Two hours of frantic shuffling and relocating, and they managed to save most of the babies and were trying to find loving homes who could take care of such small fish. The babies, now 7 weeks old, are beginning to really show what colors they'll be.
The lady there asked me to adopt the one she really liked and bring me pictures of him grown up, since she couldn't keep another betta. And how could I say no to this face?
