I was in my LFS today to ask them to order a light strip for my dumpster tank as well as sand for my shellie set up. Of course I took a gander at the Bettas.
This guy had caught my eye two weeks ago because he looked strikingly similar to a King that I adopted a year or so ago. When I checked on him today he was doing very badly. He was super clamped up and has popeye.. and god knows what else.
I pitched a fit with the employee and told him that I had mentioned he wasn't looking too good when I was in there two weeks ago and there is no excuse for any of their fish to have popeye and he could either give me the fish to take home or I could call the store owner and let him know what kind state they keep their stock in.
Finally he gave in and bagged the little guy up for me. When I walked out the other employee was dutifully changing the water in all of the betta containers ^_^
I'm not sure if I'll keep or adopt him out... leaning more towards keeping because I enjoyed the king I adopted so much and was so sad when he died. Either way he needs to get healed and fattened up first.

I'm not sure if he's a "king" or giant/half-giant. He's at least 3 in long not including his caudal, maybe more. I can't get a good measure on him because he keeps turning to face me. He's a sweet little guy. He's much redder than the pics. He's also not as fully colored as I've seen him in the past. No name so far.
