Added Indian Almond Leaf but no tannins coming out

have I done something wrong. I rinsed a IAL and popped it whole into the tank. The tank is a 5 gall. It's been floating on the top for two days but I can't see the water going brown. Is it not doing anything? I've just ripped it up and I don't see any brown coming out. How long should it take? This is the first time I've used them.

Also has anyone tried thisOcean Nutrition Atisons Betta Spa

Usually you will start to see tannins released within 30min and sometimes sooner.....is the leaf dry....I like to crush mine to get faster release of tannins....odd that you haven't seen tannins after 2 days.....

If you have a filter running with active carbon-that may be removing the tannins before you see them...since that is one of the actions of activated carbon.....

Do you have carbon in your filter? I am pretty sure that it takes any tannins right out.

No carbon in the filter. the leaf was dry but after 2 days in the tank it's not. I ripped it up and it's all sunk now but the water isn't brown.

How brown should the water be? It may be slightly brown but not noticable. I assumed it would go really brown.

I think it depends on the individual leaf. I have put small ones in and the water gets amber colored and other times i used big ones and the water is clear as can be..
