Talking I built my own canopy!!!

Now that I am quite dizzy from the paint fumes, I am ready to reveal my handmade wooden canopy for my 5 gallon.

It is quite a shoddy little piece of work, but it does get the job done. I have 2 Ecoxotic Stunner strips so I did not have room in my old hood. Finding hoods for 5 gallon tanks is starting to seem impossible, so I just decided to build my own.

Im really impressed! Until you lift the lid, I can't tell its handmade! What you could have done is painted both sides of the wood.

Well the underside is painted with white, but I didn't try too hard to protect it when I painted it black. lol. I really just wanted to get it done fast. And it is painted white on the inside for some increased reflection value.

The total cost was $11, but I did find scraps in the garage. So some spray paint (flat black, we had white), wood glue, and hinges. We actually had hinges, but I wanted ones that were cuter. It is not even like real wood. It is just that molding that you put between the wall and the floor. I glued some of it, screwed on the rest. The top has hinges. It kind of reminds me of a little treasure chest. I will try to get a picture of the top. The sides are really not great, but like I said, it gets the job done.

That... Is so awesome! I feel like a loser for shelling out big bucks for lights. Very impressive work.

Oh, I shelled out big bucks for the lights themselves. More than I would care to admit for such a small tank. Not even finished either... I want an R2 moon light.

And I probably would have bought something if I could find something for the hood! It was an act of desperation that drove me to this!

Side view.

Some day I hope to get my boyfriend to put together a nice LED light set. He is a physics major so he should be able to get the right power and stuff.
