its normal for them to be a bit muddy when you bring em home. old scruffy turned his take-home bag of water absolutely brown when i gave him a squeeze bath

I had a moss ball once. It gave my tank terrible algae. I might try one again, and make sure to QT it this time. Also, it melted because the tank I had it in was too warm. One might do well in my cooler Platy tank, however. Or several. LOL

Yep. They're like tumbleweeds and pickup everything they roll across. Give them a good swish and rinse in conditioned water.

Yikes! Usually moss balls help with algae by eating up the nutrients.

Haha, no, they're not. It's a type of plant - algae. They often roll around or float with the current. I've read that they will respond to columns of light in that they will float or sink according to how much light they receive.

They take on a life of their own, but mostly in our imaginations XD

Meh, I took him out, he seems fine. I put him in the light and he started moving up and down 0.0 why are you oblong, homer, you must be a circle!
