In a 1 gallon tank, it should probably be changed 100% every other day to keep ammonia down. If you can't manage that, look into a bigger tank with a filter so you don't have to change the water as often.

As far as room temp, what temp is that? Bettas prefer 76-84*F, below that slows their systems down and makes constipation more prevalent as well as minor discomfort and lethargy for the most part.

It's not the fatal disease thing, it doesn't look anything like it. And he would have been dead for a while now if it was. So that's good! But I can't say what that is... Maybe if you could PM Darkmoon, she could tell you.

You shouldn't have got a fish then.
1 Gal is such a small bowl/tank.
Changing the water wouldn't take more than 5 mins.
I'd advise 2 100% water changes every week.
DO NOT take your betta out of the water for a pic next time. It's not too pleasant to be thrown around, right?
What temperature is room temp? bettas need a temperature of around 80-82 F.
Sorry if I'm being harsh, but you better research a little before getting a pet next time. :/
As for medication, I'd wait for someone more experienced to post something.
The lump does look bad, yet may not be fatal if treated properly.

Is that the actual fish and can you post a pic of the fish in water...

In a 1gal filtered with a Sulfur smell..is the filter running 24h/day or do you turn if off....vacuum???or you are doing 100%????weekly??? temp???are you removing uneaten food, if so...when.....

I would start by making 50% daily water change for 2 days then make 100% cleaning the substrate really well and the filter media and see if he will perk up....and re-evaluate the symptoms once we get of better pic of the fish in water....

The sulfur smell reminds me, do you have sand in your tank? I remember Sakura saying she didn't rake the sand and the water smelled like sulfur.. Just a thought.. :/

Whiskey had a tumor. I never knew if it was cancer. He was fine for a while and then it burst and I had to euthanize him. Does it look anything like this picture? At first it was more bumpy and then it started to look like chewed gum. I asked here and on another fish forum. No one knew what it was.
