Can you really keep a Betta in a bowl?

I need some advice. I have a Betta sorority in a cycled tank and one male Betta in a 21 litre cycled tank on his own. I've come across a gorgeous male Betta I really want but I have no more tanks and no room for one.

I do have a really big glass bowl. It's round. I also have a small spare heater. I'm considering having the bowl on my desk with gravel in the bottom and the heater to keep him at the right temp. But I'm scared because I've never not had a filter. How do people do it? Do you empty it daily? How do you go about cleaning it? Do you take all the water out each day?

Can a Betta live happily in a bowl?

I think a bowl isn't really a good home for any kind of fish :/
I think a 3gal kritter keeper would be perfect. They're around $10 at Walmart.

In a gal. bowl you'd have to do 100% water changes every day, and honestly I think that's too much work o_o. in a 3 gal, you do one 50% and one 100% weekly. It's a lot easier IMO. :)

A-1gal unfiltered glass bowl would be fine provided that you make the needed water changes.....

Water changes of 1-50% and 1-100% weekly-don't over fed and remove uneaten food within a reasonable time.....

Heating can sometimes be an issue-depending on the shape...your goal is 76-80F.......

Thanks I'll have to work out how many gallons this bowl is. It's like this big round vase bowl so it looks like a bowl shape and tapers off at the top iif you know what I mean.

When you do 100% watter change do you just out the betta in a tub while it's being done?

Yeah just scoop him out in a small cup (I keep the ones they comes in) and acclimate him to the water when done changing. :)

If it's at least 2 gallons, I'd say it's fine. Otherwise, you should get a Kritter Keeper for him.

Okay. =) I hope it's big enough! Glass bowls are really pretty to keep Bettas in, as long as they're large enough. For example, my dream bowl is a 2 gallon drum style fish bowl. WANT!
