Exclamation Emergency! Please Help!

I just noticed i posted this in the wrong place. Im sorry!

I just fed my Betta dinner and i noticed his fins were actually falling off! They were completely shredded! I turned of the filter as soon as i saw it. He ate his food as normal and he acted like nothing was wrong. What bothers me is when i came home at about 5:45 they were fine! His tank is in the living room and i have been watching him swim around and he never even got by the filter the whole time i was home! What's going on? What should i do? Im really worried!! Sorry if this isn't really an Emergency, It is to me! Please Help!

Please fill this out, the best place to put this is in the emergency forum.
Turn your filter back on, stoping it and starting the filter can be more harmful since the bacteria will die and once you turn it back on it will push it out into the tank.
Check to see if there is any deco that can be sharp and tear the fins. If not, he may be a tail biter.. it is common. Is there any black edging to his fins? Can't really say what it can be exactly until there is more info, I'm sorry.
Also, pics would be very helpful, thanks.
If you have stress coat, add that in along with a water change until more experts come on to help you. Hope it helps some.

There is nothing in the tank that would bother him i have checked that. All i can think of is the filter.
The Blue in his tail (That fell off) Got darker today.
I have read over the questions and all of that stuff is fine.
I will post a Picture ASAP.

His tank is a 2.5 Gallon. I just got him sunday so i haven't done a water change.
Looking closer, his tail that didn't fall off is black. Here is a picture.
Im sorry its dark but it shows his fins.

Looks like it could be fin rot. That is treatable with medication/antibiotics, although I can't recommend anything specific as I've never had to deal with this personally. I would do a large water change soon, in a 2.5 gallon it won't take much work to change out 50% of the water (i would change 1 - 1.5 gallons). Do you condition the water? Don't underestimate how quickly ammonia can build up in your tank and start damaging your fish.

Good luck! Hopefully someone else will sto by soon that can recommend specific treatments for you.

What color was his fin? was it always a little black? I would start him up with 1 tsp per gallon aquarium salt for 7-10 days with daily water changes.it looks like it could be fin rot or biting.

where did you get the betta from? was the PH on purchase different from the current one? mine seems to have serious biting along with ph adjustment issues. the bottom caudal is even more fragile than before when i got him. ive seem to have gotten him from biting but fragile fins still are an issue.
