I condition my females in a way OFL told me, I keep my females in 1/4 -1/2 gal containers with at least 3 almond leaves a little java moss and I feed them once a day bloodworms a small lunch of 2 pellets and dinner of live food or more bloodworms then I fast them for 2 days and dump them into my breeding container thats full of pond scum organisms for them to eat.

Unfortunately I don't know how I got mine to do it. I have owned her for 3 months and I try to keep black worms and quality betta pellets available. I do keep all my betta in 1 gallon tanks, and they can all see each other. Good luck though!

I kept mine alone in 2g at 78 degrees, mass feeding mosquito larvae 2-3 times a day. by mass feeding i mean at least 20+ big mosquito larvae 2-3 times a day. Changed the water daily 50% for a week then dumped her into her chimney of 82 degree clean water with the male in sight, if after 4-5 hours shes not ready to go i then carefully (didnt want to disturb his nest) poured about a gallon of rainwater id bucketed a couple of days before thats at room temp into the tank. The first time she spawned within an hour, the second time was about a week later and it took her 26 hours.

I found that a sudden surge of food really gets them ready if it available in the breeding tank. Which is something you have to remember my fish have access to food while breeding at all times. And also I condition them for a long time this latest female I just bred had been conditioned for a week.
And the rain thing Punki suggested I use too and it really works well :)

Do you leave the tank light on or off, once you have them together, trying to spawn...
