Vertical bars are signs of breeding readiness or dominance :) which means she is happy thats my best guess but pics would help

Here is an example of the bars I am talking about:
Name: Betta,199.jpg
Views: 68
Size: 29.7 KB
All bars are slightly different in each female and can look like splotches
And I have only heard of marbles going from light to dark

The stripes on your female betta appear normal. Female bettas seem to use vertical and horizontal stripes to communicate with other bettas. Most dark bodied females will have those vertical stripes when they are communicating submission or that they are ready to breed. Dark bodied females will get horizontal stripes when stressed. It is sometimes difficult to see barring on marble females.

The bars Creat is talking about doesn't extend to the fins. So if the fins are changing color, your female is most probably a marble - some marbles do change color at an older age.
