That's great news. A night in the dark always seems to calm things down with our feisty bettas. Please keep us posted on any information you receive re: males and females housed together. I just separated mine so I didn't research the details of having them in the same divided tank. I'm curious to know what you discover!

Haha, this has been a while but.. I had to move Demi back into her individual tank. She got all eggy and finally saw Shasta and kept chasing him around the divider.
But I put another male, Bangle, in with Shasta (:

I discovered in another thread that we can buy black mesh dividers at our local craft store. You just replace them with your current clear dividers as they fit into the current plastic guides. They're called plastic canvas. They should be in the sewing area where there is embroidery floss. I was told that another forum member uses them and their bettas don't even know there's another fish in the same tank. I'm so excited - I'm going to go see if I can find some. I had to share!

That's actually what I use for my dividers. xD
Only mine are white and have square holes in them.

Putting a male and a female in a divided tank is called "foreplay"... its an insidious torture.

Not really. My male and female lived in a divided tank for several months and they never showed the slightest interest in breeding. A couple of times he got through, but it was just to beat her up and patrol that side of the tank.

I think two males in a divided tank is worse. They intend to kill/seriously hurt the male on the other side, so I would say that's far more stressful for bettas than housing a male and female together.
