Clamped fins, suddenly inactive? :(

I discovered Hippie acting a bit off today/yesterday, and now I'm worried about him. :( His fins seem to be clamped and he's less active. Still eating though, and sometimes he swims and unclamps them. I'm not sure what's going on- I didn't change his water for a few days cause I installed a new sponge filter- and then a heater. I put him in a bowl with some Epsom, maybe bloated?

Symptoms and Treatment
How has your betta fish's appearance changed? Clamped Fins
How has your betta fish's behavior changed? Less active. He's still eating though.
When did you start noticing the symptoms? Yesterday
Have you started treating your fish? If so, how? I put him in a smaller (tank) bowl with some Epsom.
Does your fish have any history of being ill? Nope. He was making bubble nests just a few days ago.
How old is your fish (approximately)? I'm not sure.

He might be adjusting to the new filter/heater. It could be causing him to stress. That being said more information is needed for a diagnosis, if you could answer as many of these questions as possible it would really help.

He might be still getting used to the new filter as said above or he's not used to the water changes yet.

Are his poops normal? Still eating fine? Is the filter on his side of the divide? He could not like the current from it.

The filter is on the other side but he gets a little current from it. He's been eating fine, I'm not sure about poo, I have dark gravel and it's difficult to tell. But I took the filter out, and he's just chilling all clamped up at the top of the tank.


OHBUT the heater is on his side.

Maybe he's just feeling a little insecure right now. Keep a close eye on him and his tank mate for anything else to pop up.

Yeah, he hasn't lost any color, or none that I can tell, and I usually can tell.

update; he's alive this morning! and i moved the heater, put it in the other side.. and did a 20% change. he's swimming around a bit more and still eats/ chases my finger, but he's still clamped.. caspian, his tankmate, seems to be doing all right.



..and i just noticed the paper between the two tanks was moved slightly, and he can see into flair's tank. crap. he must be overly stressed from flaring or something



i just put in a few -hundred- plants, so he has some more hiding places, so i think i'll give him some time.
