How to speed up the process of slime coat removal?

I was at first freaking out over Douglas' peeling condition, thinking it was some sort of fungus. I was reassured here that it was excess slime coat which is produced when the fish are in dirty pet store cups.

He still has that white-ish/clear slime coat hanging from him. Is there any way to easily remove or help speed up the process?

He's eating normally, actively swimming, making bubble nests, playing with my finger etc. so I know it doesn't really bother him, just me!
