Unhappy Betta has split fins?

Today I just noticed a split in my bettas tail. And I think it was because of the plastic plant I had for him. So I took the plant out today. And hopefully I can get a new silk one today. He seems to be swimming fine though..

Any advice?

You may get different answers from different people. I have a female that had a split tail about a week ago. The next day it was almost all the way healed. I was like "that was fast"! I know male's long fins can take awhile to heal up. I have 1 that I have been trying to heal for weeks and he's healing slowly. he's a HM with big flowerly fins. (hope he's not a chronic biter!)

They can grow quite fast; fins are fairly resilient. Keep his water pristine.

Clean water, good food, and maybe some aq salt and that's about all. I wouldn't go to aq salt unless there was fin rot setting in or it took more than a week for new growth to appear. It'll be clear when it comes in but should change to his coloring as it goes.

Are freeze dried blood worms good? or just the pellets?

FD blood worms as a treat since they cause constipation. The pellets will be perfectly fine.

A super high protein diet is the best for fin regrowth. Frozen (not freezedried) bloodworms are a good start, and a high quality fish food like New Life Spectrum are your best bets. In fact, a high protein diet really is best for bettas anyways since they are carnivores. If you read your fish food ingredients and the first 2 ingredients are not some sort of whole fish (or shrimp) meal then you need to find a different pellet. They will taste better and your fish will end up healthier, thus with better color!
The next thing will be increased water changes. At least every other day, 50-100% depending on your tank size. If you have a cycled, filtered tank over 5 gallons you could do 25-50% changes.
The most important thing of all is to actually test the plants with pantyhose. Silk, or plastic, both of them have caused problems for people because they didn't do the simple test. It is the only foolproof way to make sure your fish is safe.
Good luck!
