Red face Any opinions on new tank mates?

I have a ten gallon tank for about three months now. I started with Fyren (betta), 6 neon tetras and 6 ghost shrimp. All the ghost shrimp died which I'm fairly certain I can blame on the heat where I live (I have the tank much cooler now). I was wondering if any one has had any luck with some other kinds of fish with their betta?

Cory cats would be cool, but at 6 tetras and a betta, you are pretty much stocked to capacity (cory cats need to be kept in groups as well). More shrimp either ghost, cherry, or others would work because they don't bring the bioload. Otherwise, one apple snail might work as well.
