Hello, I am considering breeding Betta's eventually, but before I consider I would like to know what I need and how much it costs. Also does anyone know how or were to sell Betta's and were I could find a local breeder?

Lets see... you will need...

10 gallon tank - $12
A hood for your 10 gallon(if it gets a little cold around your area) - $25
sponge filter - $10
air pump - $7
tubes - $2
indian almond leaf or styrofoam

so maybe around 50 - 60 bucks??

and i dunno about local breeders but there are some really good breeders on aquabid.com

I dont filter my tanks for the fry until they become about an inch long and its with a little back up filter : $20
Jars: $25
I guess the cost can depend on you method say for instance with outdoor spawns you dont buy food or replace the water or filter it
and try aquabid or try find someone around you in the area for stock...

I posted exact costs way back and I'll see if I can find it again but here's a rough estimate for my first spawn.

10 gallon $13
Saran wrap to keep the tank covered and humid $4
Java moss $10 (shipped)
Pair-$30
fry food cultures (micro worms, walter worms, banana worms, vinegar eels) ~$15
equipment for culturing fry foods ~$15
brine shrimp eggs ~$10
air pump~$8
air hose~$3
heater~$25
jars~$15
grow out tank $35
IAL $8
meds (aquarium salt, velvet meds, etc) ~$10-20

Plus any other incidentals I'm not thinking of

Total of the stuff I listed comes to $201 and I know I spent well over that when you take into consideration water usage, buckets, time, electricity (even though it's a small amount). It's not cheap to get into breeding if you're going to start off on the right foot.
