If you don't have tannis, stress coat can help keep him calm.

I wouldn't add AQ salt just yet, it could just irritate him even more. Stress coat might be a good idea, and tannins would definitely be a good idea. Indian Almond leaf, crushed oak leaves, or decaf green tea will work well. Steep them in a gallon jug with dechlorinated water until it gets nice and dark, then add it in to a container that can be floated in the tank. In my opinion, I would take him out of the larger tank just so he can reach the surface easily and be in a quiet, confined space. When did this behavior start, and was there anything that was done differently that might have sparked it??? I'm so sorry you have to go through this, sounds like it's been a rough day!!

No, I just added stress coat. I was going to so I nudged him to ease him off the plant and he started going crazy and swimming around. Now I think he is resting on the bottom.

That is sooo strange. Maybe he caught what the female had, but is just reacting in a different way??? Is there anything else that is visibly wrong with him (swollen grey belly, swollen eyes, pine-coning scales etc)??

ok swollen grey belly indicates an internal infection so definitely put him in QT and get some epsom salt in there with him. Normally the dosage is 1 tsp per gallon but I'd up it to two since he's not doing so well right now.
