When is too much?

Went to my LFS to get some pictus and rams and a lady there was telling me that she has 99 bettas. Let me repeat 99!!! She is not a breaded, just a collector. I love bettas and I want a few more but 99 is a bit much don't you think?

I don't want to offend anyone that has that many bettas but it would have to be a full-time job to take care of so many bettas.

But the question is, what does she keep her bettas in and do they have heaters, water changes, filters, etc

99 seems like a lot to me if your not a breeder though

This was my first thought as well.

Assuming she's not a hoarder (or a pathological liar), and she actually takes proper care of her little fishy friends, then more power to her.

Too much is when you can't take care of what you have currently in an enriching manner and keep adding more.

I don't think she has heaters because she said the largest tank she has is a 1 gallon. And I think she is a hoarder and I doubt she does water changes.

I think too much is when you have them for the sake of having them rather then the relationship you have with your pet [breeding is a bit different then this]. As well as when you cannot take care of the number you have. That number can very greatly depending on the person.

and my sister said I was a hoarder!

I could kind of see having THAT many IF they had huge tanks and they were all females but 99 water changes?
(my fish get better care and treatment then most people).
