Stress Coat turning water brown?

(Ok, these past two days my fish are driving me insane.) I picked up some Stress Coat Friday. I premixed a gallon of tap water per jug, same ones I always use, and added .5ml stress coat according to directions. I always let the jugs sit next to the tank so the temps are the same.

Tonight I notice the water in the jug was brownish. This never happened with the other conditioner I usually use.

I'm assuming this is not normal?

I'm not going to use the water now. My new test kit will be here on Tues so I can't test until then.

I use Stress Coat myself, and haven't found this to occur.

The only logical thing I could assume is that something else has suddenly turned the water brown (plants, substrate, chemical reaction with your water to water additions?)

To test this, I would obviously get a cup of water that you use from the tap, add stress coat. Another cup, add stress coat and substrate. Another cup, plant and stress coat. Etc etc.

Other thought, is it expired?

Been using stress coat for the last 16 years+ and never had that happen. I would rinse out the jug as best as you can and redo it. It could of been a chemical reaction to other chemical residue, but unsure. Wish I could be of help, but unless the stress coat is really out of date, I don't know how else it could cause that.

(jugs haven't been cleaned out with soap, have they?)

No soap. I went back to my other conditioner for the time being. Thanks!
