Gills inflamed? Anything on his body that is abnormal? Spots, patches, pineconing? Laying on side breathing heavily makes me think of ammonia or chemical reaction. Use soap to clean anything? Accidently sprayed something near his tank like air freshner or perfume?

well he looks like hes getting better and he doesnt have pinecone. he just moved and turned around right now and then he fell to his side again. the temp in the tank he's in right now is like 80 degrees F. And his fins has like always been clumped. Except when hes flaring at the mirror his fins open up a little. But when i first got him i took some pictures and his fins were all spread out. Now they're all scrunched up.

what is his normal body color? and where is his tank located? is it anywhere, where those sprays could contaminate the water?

Correct me if I am wrong but I just want to make sure, these are his symptoms:
lethargic
pale
hard time breathing
clamped fins
does all that sound right? am I missing anything?

what do you use to condition your water?

the only thing I can recommend right now is to keep him warm and in a dark area as not to create in stress. If you can get ahold of something like stress coat that might help to, its a water conditioner but it will else boost their immune system and just help protect them.

"Indian Almond leaves, tannins, black water extracts, and peat moss pellets are all things that you can add to help prevent illness or help recovery. API Stress Coat and Kordon’s Fish Protector are water conditioners/additives that help slime coat production and skin repair. They can be added at any time your fish shows signs of illness."

If you get de caf tea like de-caf black tea, that will have tannins in it, just steep it in water like you normally would and let it cool, make sure the water is conditioned. also I am not 100% on this but I though there was a thread going around about a water conditioner that was not doing the best for fish. these are just things you can do to help him feel alil relaxed. Until more signs of illness pop up thats all the advice I can give right now. Feel free at anytime to send me a private message if things get worse. and keep this thread updated to. I hope things are good with him!
