First off welcome to the forums!

And yes, it's recommended to quarantine any plants/fish you get at your LPS, even at your PFS. Most of the times plants have hitch hikers, so you should quaratine them for about 2 - 3 weeks, if there are any hitch hikers, kill them!

Usually snails, those pesky things are hard to spot. And they multiply like crazy! So better to put your Val into a separate tank, if there are snails you'll see them sooner or later.

Depends. I get mine from those little individual packages that are snail free, so I trust them, but BE SURE to wash it out. And get all that crap it is shoved in (like soil) out.

Er, how big is the vase? I really do hope that's not your permanent home for your Betta. Airstones are actually not needed for Bettas since they breathe through their labyrinth organ (meaning they go up to the surface to breath).

Snails are usually small, like dot sizes.
