Filter troubles

I have a 2.5 betta bow for my betta fish. I used to have a filter in there but it caused a big current for my fish. Is there anyway I can slow down the current?
I spent alot of money on that tank so he could have a filter and stuff :S

Yes! You can baffle it. There are a few ways to do it, but a cheap and easy one is to use an empty plastic water bottle. There's a great how-to thread for that here.

You can also wrap a sponge around the filter and rubber-band it on. Both methods work quite well.

I just wanted to add to this and show a baffle over a power filter for those of you who have one like really helps out alot. This is the power filter 5 from Petco 2 gallon hexagon tank. Thanks to all you ingenious people who came up with the idea in the first place!
