Two new females

Not breeding them yet... For a few reasons. For one they are 3/4 an inch, got little color to them and they came from mucky bowls -.- poor things.

Anywho, what age you reckon they are?

How old do they usually breed best (opinions welcome)?

Anything I should watch out for with these small lil girls? One fluctuates purple on her back... Sometimes just sits there going purple, then not, then is...

can you post a picture? Since they're so small i reckon they're either malnourished or very young. or both. Prime breeding age is 3-6 months, I think.
The sometimes purple one sounds like a marble :)

A marble would be pretty... Right now they are an ugly yellowish white color with their stripes (transition stripes), their bowls were utter filth, and I risked them mainly because they were more aware of their surroundings

Here are the pics.

The first picture (excuse teh visible mess, I did clean just some got away ) is the larger female, who is 3/4 of an inch. The second two are of the more active, responsive female who is smaller than the other.

The first one has a tinge of yellow to her, and the other has a tinge of purple (on and off). Once I got them into the tank, after floating them and all that they were both kind of going "nobody move!!! there's...there's...space..." xD It is a 10 gallon. Both are sticking together like glue, and have learned they can explore...

Here is a question. Look at the pictures posted... their "cheeks" are pink. Not their gills, but in front on their faces. Is that normal? Or is it a possible burn? Either way they are definitely in better hands now! Better than the other 2 females, and the wack load VT males...

They are so adorable :3 i can't wait to see what colour they'll be when they're settled in!
I don't know about the pinkness, but i've seen quite a lot of light coloured females with that 'burn'. It may be the burn, but it could be something more serious. I would say try changing their water often to see if it's something to do with ammonia and bad water quality.

well if it is suspected burn I am definitely keeping an eye on them!!! They were bought from bowls that the bottom was not visible. One had brownish grey gunk, the other had serious algae and black "algae" looking stuff. They were both very active and responded well, and lacked physical signs of ich or anything else... just the pink cheeks...

they're still babies, it looks like. Chappy had those stripes down her body like that when she was still a young fry, while Lulu only got those down part of her body when stressed.

the pink stripes could just be from how pale they are. wait till they grow more, before you even think of breeding them. you have no clue what color they are, or what tail type they are. they're still bitty babies~

Oh I won't breed them until I know they are adults lol. The pink looks like a patch to me... Awfully close to the gills D: but hey!!! The bigger girl, he pink is gone. She is very active, less of the yellow color (assuming that's good). The other hides lots but is active :)
