Tank Lid Opening

Hi guys,

I'm a little concerned about the lid on my tank...There are three parts to it,
1. The front has a cover that you can open/close to feed fish etc,
2. Clear plastic to insert a light over in the middle
3. The back part which is wide open (about 2-3 inches) along the whole tank to insert heater/filter. My heater and filter pretty much take half of that space but the other half is wide open.

Do you guys think my soon to come bettas will be able to jump out through this opening?

It's definitely a possibility, and you never know if your fish is going to be a jumper until you get it. I'm not really sure how high bettas can jump, especially the females seeing as how they don't have massive fins to keep them from jumping as high as they can... You can leave the water level down an inch or so, if you're worried about it, or you can probably get some kind of plastic to cover it, or some sort of mesh, like you would use on window screens or maybe something that's a bit safer as I don't know what the screen for windows and doors are made out of >.>; It's a thought, though, and I'm assuming so long as it's not in the water and pieces won't be falling in it, which I'm sure it won't be, then it should turn out okay

Yea I will try a mesh, maybe some kind of fish net mesh would do the trick!

Thanks!

Yeah, that definitely sounds like a great idea, seeing as how it's already safe for fish ^.^; Dunno why I didn't think of that, lol.. but yeah, hope it turns out alright!

I use cross stitching mesh to cover any holes in my tank hoods. You can use superglue, aquarium silicone, or tape to hold it in place. I once had a guy jump up and out 3 inches. 0_0
