Solid Purple Betta Splendens

G'day All,

I'm trying to find a pure solid purple betta splenden for my girlfriend. Do they exist or are breeders still attempting to get the solid colour through breeding?

They pretty much don't exist. Some people may claim to have purple bettas, but they tend to look blue to me. So I guess deep violet would be a good term for them. There are some fake pictures around the internet of what they could look like, but keep in mind that they are photoshopped.

There are some Cambodians that have purple fins. But then their bodies are white.

Yea, as I thought. I google'd it and the only factual information I found indicated that breeders are still trying to cross blue and red but always end up with mixed colours or violets/pinks.

My LFS guy, reckons he is getting '4 purple Bettas in tomorrow'. Queired "Solid purple?", his reponse "No word of a lie, yup." I'll rock up, and I seriously doubt it, but if they're there - I'll buy em all and sell on here for yas? :P

What would they fetch if they were pure purple, $100 upwards of?

EDIT: Found the link regarding pure purple lineage quest! http://bettysplendens.com/articles/p...?articleid=757

It depends on the shade of purple you want, I think. I saw some pretty ones at Petco that were solid lilac.
