Is this too big??

i recently got a new tank, complete with filter, heater ect except it is 10 gallons!! is that to big for just one betta???

It should be fine! A few bettas stress out in larger areas....but most are fine. :)

Just keep it well planted with places to hide like caves and he should be just fine. Make sure the filter is baffled or on the lowest setting possible as to not stress him out and wear him out.

what size tank is he in now? ..

i would suggest slowly increasing the amount of water he's in .. because .. some betta's are bread in 20g tanks .. and cupped immediately when they get color and growth .. so their fin's haven't developed a lot of strength to be swimming in 10g immediately out of the cup and end up biting their tails so they can swim faster ..

so if he's in a 1g .. try to only fill the 10g half way . so he gets used to the extra space .. and grows stronger flippers .. then fill more as he's getting stronger to patrol his space

You could divide the tank for 2 bettas...

I have Crayola Colors in a 10 gallon, with a rock in the middle. He loves it. I have Spartan now divided in the 10 gallon tank with Rose. Then I have 4 females in the 20 gallon :)

I think, if it were for a single betta by himself anything above 10-15 gallons would be a bit much lol
