Urgent Please Help! How long will a hamster survive outside on a windy day?? D:

Today when my family was walking our dog, we came across two abandoned hamsters in a tiny cage by the road. There were two syrian hamsters in the cage, one was missing its head, and dead (obviously.) My parents were horrified and wouldn't let me take the surviving one home, no matter how hard I begged. Now tomorrow I can sneak outside to get it, but I doubt it would still be alive. The hamster was wet, shivering, and to make matters worse, today was the coldest day since February. Now I'm just wondering if there is a small chance that the hammie would be still alive tomorrow. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I doubt he will be, rodents have a very fast metabolism and get cold really easily. Maybe you can get him a box with some newspaper and some food and water to keep him warm. I can't imagine being with a dead hamster is pleasant for the poor guy. I can't believe people would be so horrible as to abandon the poor creatures. They could have given them an new home. :( Hamsters are pretty popular. Maybe a friend can pick it up for you. Poor hammie!

that's HORRIBLE! i'd like to find whoever left them there and kick them. somewhere VERY painful. there's always a possibility that he'll still be alive, miracles happen.

I've asked many of my friends, but the response I got from nearly all of them was "Oohh thats soo sad but my parents would kill me if I brought a hamster home! Sorry!". It also angers me that someone would do something so irresponsible. When you get a pet, you are responsible for it nomatter what. I really feel bad for seeing it there, but doing nothing. The only thing I can do really is to pray for a miracle.

Maybe you could call the SPCA or something? That's the only thing I can think of. :( If I was close to you, I would have totally picked it up.. I'd need someone to remove the dead one because I'm really squeamish, but I'd take the poor bugger for sure. :(
I hope some nice person sees it and picks it up.. I'm sure the dead one would repel people though, not good for the live one. :<

Poor things. Can't someone just bring them to a shelter?? Or at least call the shelter??
