Rule of Thumb for holes

Whats a good way to make sure a hole is big enough for your betta to swim through before putting it in the tank?

I just bought this:

and want to make sure the hole at the top is big enough

I think the general rule of thumb is at least the size of a quarter. That thing should be fine though, I see it in a lot of pictures of peoples' tanks :)

I judge by using my finger. My fattest middle finger is my guide bc I know it's wider than Lakitu. Mind you, that's just playing at the store, I haven't bought any yet. I like the quarter suggestion. Better safe than sorry!

I'd say if you can stick your thumb through it, it's fine.

Girls a quarter, boys a fifty cent piece when they're old. Many can get stiff fins and it damages them badly to be flexed too hard.

The main thing to watch out for with holes and bettas is whether they can be trapped when they float up for air inside things. Betta can drown.
