split fin, need some care advice. please help!!!

so i came home today after being away from Oscar for a couple days (my mom took care of him) and found his back fin had split from over flaring. i had given my mom the idea to print out a background so i didnt have to keep a post-it note over the filter so he would stop flaring. she didnt check on him for a while and found him freaking out and flaring out all over the background so she took it off but didnt notice his fins until i pointed it out.

hes acting like his normal self and doesnt seemed phased at all by what happened

he is in a 5 gallon filtered and heated tank and i took out the fake plants that could have possibly snagged on his open fins.

he has two splits on his back fin:

i know its kinda hard to see but sadly the only camera i have is my phone camera

will he heal all the way?
how much should i change the water now that his fin is split?
should i add aquarium salt?
any other advice is very welcomed

I would just keep the water clean for now-with a couple of extra 50% water only changes....give him time and it should heal up in a week or so......as long as he had good water quality and nutrition to start......if he has a filter you may want to turn it off and increase water changes-high protein foods fed in small frequent meals to promote healing is also helpful as well as tannins....

If the area starts to look fuzzy or he has a change in behavior he may need a treatment..in a small QT container.....

In the 5gal filtered tank-how much and how often are the water changes, temp, live plants, additives used, tank mates, age and appetite....
