my betta is not eating anything

hi guys im new to keeping an aquarium.

i have a red veil tail betta. just bought him sunday and i named him bobby!

my friend said its a 2.5 gallon tank but i doubt it, its a 5 gallon hexagon tank.

i have some live plants in it i dont know what they are called. i have a heater. my filter is a tetra whisper ex filtration for a 10-20 gallon tank. the current was to strong so i baffled it a lil bit.

inside the tank is 3 long fin danios. well now theres 2 coz the other one died when i got home i saw his fins are nip so i knew that he attack him.

my problem is that he always stay on one corner at the bottom of the tank most of the time.. but he goes up for air and swim a lil bit around, harrassed pancho and manolo. and then go down again to where his lil cave is. he doesnt eat the pellets im giving him...?
any ideas?

heres a small list that you should check..

-give him some time to adjust to your place.
-and better yet take out those danios their probably stressin him out.
-get a heater and make sure your temp is 78-80.
-check water qaulity no high levels of nitrate, chlorine, amonia,pH levels etc

-do this and surely enough your betta will perk up

Danios and bettas cannot live together. The danios are probably stressing your boy out, so I would suggest you take them out (it will be better for all the fish involved!) As for him not eating, have you tried frozen bloodworms, or soaking the pellets in garlic juice or bloodworm "juice"? Works for me when one of my boys decides to go on a hunger strike. Keep in mind, though, he's probably still getting used to his new home, and it may take a few days for him to settle down enough to be hungry. It's normal.

You have too many fish in that tank. The filter is way too strong.

He needs to be himself and try crushing his pellets. I've had a delta tail Betta for about 3-4 weeks, and he still can't eat a whole pellet AND keep it down.

Also, the only way to be sure how many gallons you have is to fill it up gallon by gallon. A 5 gallon tank will only hold 4 gallons, a 10 gallon tank holds 8 gallons, etc.

If you can't find another suitable home for the danios, you could also get Bobby a 2.5 gallon tank for him to live in on his own.

I hate to say this but when i got home tonight my brother told me bobby died. Waaaaahhhh but the 2 danios is still alive

I was wondering is there such a thing the filter is too strong for my fish tank? I did baffle the current of the filter so the current goes down.
Its 110 gallons per hour?
And one more thing my tank is not fully cycle yet maybe its because of that?
Im trying to rule out other posibilty first before the filter

It makes me feel like i dont wanna buy another betta? :(

Do this-

Get a new filter. Way to strong!!! It should only be filtering the whole thing per hour! Gosh, that thing is way strong!

Get rid of the Dainos or don't get another Betta. If you do, someone will for sure die. Wether it be the Dainos or the Betta.

Sorry about your loss. I would do as the others recommended and get the appropriate filter. It can add more stress then what is good for your little guy. Their tails are heavy to them, so anything that pushes the water has to be so soft, you barely feel anything.
Not every betta can live with other fish... it depends largely on each of their personalities. But danios are a big no-no because they are usually the ones attacking the betta. (And it may of been them attacking the other danio and not the betta)
How did you acclimate him to the tank?
Sounds like between the stress of the water flow, the danios (who need 4-5 at least in a tank, and anything smaller then a 15g for them is not recommended), and possibly ammonia spikes & not being acclimated properly.. he didn't have much of a chance and stressed out too much.

I'd suggest finding a new home for the danios, or get them a larger tank with more danios and if you get a new betta, he can have the 2.5-5gal you have now. Best wishes.
